The 6th French national DuoDay was held on November 18. The principle: a volunteer employee welcomes a person with a disability to his or her workplace to help them discover the company and their job.

This year, Murielle Fras, Executive Assistant at Erasteel Commentry, welcomed Mélanie, who suffers from a loss of mobility in her shoulder. Currently on long-term sick leave, Melanie is thinking of changing jobs.

For Murielle, the approach was obvious: “I simply wanted to help. People with disabilities are often cut off from the business world. As employees, we can help them discover our world, our sector.” An ideal pairing for Mélanie, who is interested in administrative jobs: “I was well-received at Erasteel, and I got on immediately with Murielle. The day’s program was varied and I really enjoyed it: I was able to meet the teams and visit a workshop; I even got to make a poster for the site’s New Year’s ceremony.

Launched in 2016 in France, DuoDay aims to change the way people look at disability : “Recruiters often have the impression that disability is a fatality, that disabled people cannot work, which is not true. When we give them the means, they can work just like us,” says Murielle Fras. For Mélanie, the outcome of this day of immersion at Erasteel is positive: “I was able to discover the job of executive assistant for a day, and to project myself into a completely new profession.

A positive and enriching experience for both Mélanie and Murielle, who have even decided to stay in touch!
