Eramet’s Research & Innovation Centre has developed a process that can infinitely recycle more than 90% of the strategic metals (nickel, cobalt, lithium) contained in the blackmass of end-of-life batteries and in scrap from gigafactory production.

A unique battery recycling process

From launch to industrialization

With ReLieVe, our intention is to develop a recycling industry in Europe, from the collection of used batteries and gigafactory scrap, to the production of materials suitable for the manufacture of new batteries. The project meets the challenges of the energy transition and the need to secure the supply of metals requireded to manufacture electric batteries in Europe, as well as contributing to the circular economy.

Closing of the pre-project consultation process

The preliminary consultation for the ReLieVe project, conducted under the aegis of the Commission Nationale du Débat Public (CNDP), ran from March 4 to April 20. During this period, citizens had the opportunity to find out more about the ReLieVe project and to be involved in its development.

At the end of the preliminary consultation, the guarantors appointed by the CNDP drew up a report on the process, summarizing the way in which it was conducted and presenting a summary of the comments and proposals made by the public and the responses provided by Eramet.

In turn, Eramet has drawn up a report in which it responds to the recommendations of the guarantors. This report presents the lessons learned from the consultation and the measures deemed necessary to take them into account.

Both reports are now available on the consultation website www.relieveproject.eu.

The ReLieVe project is now entering a phase of continuous consultation until Eramet submits its Environmental Authorization Application.
