During the 2000s, a decade marked by the worrying spread of HIV, the ERAMET Groupe launched the Gamma programme to fight the spread of the virus and STD in Gabon. Renewed in 2014, the traditional screening operation of its subsidiary SETRAG along the Transgabonais railway is part of this programme.

SETRAG operates the transport of passengers and various merchandises between Libreville and Franceville in Gabon by the Transgabonais railway. Its screening campaign’s principle is simple but effective: the Transgabonais railway, using a medial wagon chartered by SETRAG, gives the company’s employees and their families access to anonymous tests, health advice and HIV prevention tools.

In 2014, the Transgabonais train began its journey in Ntoum station on February 18th and ended it on March 2nd in Franceville, stopping at no fewer than 23 stations on the way. The programme has proved just as popular, with more than 750 employees volunteering for screening.

Next stop will be on May 25th and 28th in Owendo site where the final stage of this screening campaign will take place. Many other actions are already planned and being carried out in parallel, with the aim of keeping up dialogue.
