At Eramet, we strongly believe that mental health is an integral part of occupational health and safety. A calm, heard, and supported mind is an essential requirement for working safely, preventing on-the-ground risks, and fostering individual and collective fulfillment. This conviction lies at the core of our Act for Positive Mining CSR roadmap and our Group Diversity and Inclusion strategy.
Mental Health: An Indispensable Pillar of Our Safety Culture
In the mining and metallurgical industry, safety culture is everywhere. However, safety isn’t limited to wearing protective equipment or following physical safety instructions; it also means looking out for the teams’ psychological health. Stress, burnout, or personal difficulties can affect concentration and increase the risk of accidents.
That is why, on World Mental Health Day (October 10), Eramet is launching its new global poster and internal awareness campaign: “How Are You?”.
The goal of this campaign is clear:
- Encourage open conversation and break the taboos around distress at work or in personal life.
- Learn to recognize warning signs (severe fatigue, stress, irritability, loss of concentration, isolation, etc.).
- Remind everyone that asking for help is a responsible step—essential for oneself as well as for colleagues.
A Global Support System
Beyond raising awareness, Eramet guarantees all employees concrete access to prevention tools and tailored psychological support:
- Guaranteed access to mental health professionals: Psychological assistance services and medical support are in place (partnerships with specialized firms such as ResSsources in France, mobile apps and dedicated programs like Naluri in Indonesia, the Grupo Wellness Latina initiative in Argentina, or Overvinne in Norway).
- A network of trained local contacts in the field: Training volunteer employees (psychosocial risk prevention officers, diversity and inclusion focal points) to listen and offer guidance close to teams’ daily routines.
- Management awareness and training: Dedicated training sessions on psychosocial risks and regular webinars on quality of life at work.
- Integrating work-life balance factors into managerial discussions: Particular attention paid to workload and work-life balance during annual reviews.
- Risk mapping and anticipation: Regular assessments through Diversity & Inclusion surveys and Human Rights risk mappings.
By taking action on mental health at all levels of the organization, Eramet reaffirms its commitment to becoming an employer of choice in the mining and metallurgical sector, where sustainable performance above all relies on caring for people.
