For 3 years now, ERAMET has been supporting the project against illiteracy created by the Apféé (Association to favor equal opportunities at school): Coup de Pouce Clé. Today the Groupe supports 12 clubs Coup de Pouce Clé in all. 6 are in Dunkerque and 6 others in Grenoble, close to 2 of its French sites.

Created in 1994, the clubs Coup de Pouce Clé are meant for children in their second year at primary school who do not receive at home the necessary support to succeed at reading and writing. Nowadays, nearly 10.000 children are being helped through that project. The clubs are composed of 5 children each and animated by professionals. They come in addition to school. As for parents, they are invited to help their children by sharing their experience of the club Coup de Pouce Clé.

At the end of 2012, teachers noted a strong increase in self-confidence and a better relation to school among the children that were members of a club Coup de Pouce Clé. The project also had a positive impact on parents. After a year at a club, they declared feeling themselves able to help their children for the years to come. By involving the parents into the process, Coup de Pouce Clé thus managed not only to solve the current problem, but also to implement the best practices those families needed.
