As part of the Heritage Month, SLN opened the doors of its plant in Doniambo, New Caledonia to the public on September 8th.
Organized by the Southern Province, for SLN the Heritage Month was another opportunity to showcase its Doniambo plant to the Caledonians. On Saturday, September 8, 2012, it organized four free visits to its site. The visitors were able to tour the plant itself and were also able to learn about the company from stands presenting its activities, from mining to the nickel processing, as well as the efforts being made to limit its atmospheric emissions. Finally, volunteer employees took part in a questions/answers session with the public. The operation was a great success and the tours were fully booked in advance with 100 people being shown around the facility.
The general public’s interest in the Doniambo plant is clear, beyond this special event: in 2011 well over 1,800 people took part in the free tours organized by SLN on the final Thursday of each month.
