On Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013, ERAMET Research’s Trappes centre welcomed the members of the Groupe’s Board of Directors. They were there to discover the latest breakthroughs in the hydrometallurgical process being developed to beneficiate ores with low nickel content for the Weda Bay Nickel project in Indonesia.

The aim of the visit was to let the Board members gain in-depth knowledge of the process’s latest progress and advantages, to prepare for the next validation stages in the ongoing project.

Welcomed by ERAMET Research Chairman Christophe Petit, the delegation began its tour by the essential safety briefing, followed by a presentation of all ERAMET Research’s activities. Next came a reminder of Weda Bay Nickel’s overall process and development approach, before the Board members visited the working pilot plant. This small-scale trial facility is managed by Yves Le Quesne, Head of ERAMET Research’s Hydrometallurgy & Mineralurgy department, who, together with Jean-Jacques Reverdy, Nickel Division’s Industrial Vice-President, presented a study benchmarking the ERAMET process against other techniques currently in use, as well as a progress report on the work schedule under development.
