Eramet is working towards responsible mining with IRMA
In 2022, Eramet announced its aim of bringing its mining sites into compliance with the IRMA (Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance) standard by having all of its active mining sites audited by 2027. Eramet is one of the first mining groups to publicly commit to the IRMA process.
Launched in 2018, this standard defines best practices for responsible mining and addresses the needs of all our stakeholders (host countries and communities, customers, end consumers, employees, and investors). Its distinctive and egalitarian governance structure (NGOs, unions, buyers, affected communities, financial sector representatives, mining companies) explains the high level of credibility enjoyed by the initiative, since it ensures that the standard is rigorous and the mine certification process transparent.
In February 2026, the Eramet Grande Côte site, specializing in the extraction of mineral sands in Senegal, achieved the IRMA 50 performance level, becoming the first site in the Group to be audited according to this standard and one of the 14 mining sites worldwide to have undergone an IRMA performance evaluation.
In Argentina and Indonesia, the Eramine and PT Weda Bay Nickel sites completed their self-assessments, and an improvement program aimed at a future audit is currently being implemented at each site. In Gabon, Comilog began its self-assessment in April 2024.
