Our objectives
- Create a project that is socially and environmentally compliant with the Equator Principles and IFC Performance Standards.
- Incorporating respectful technological choices (no solid discharge into the sea, limited use of water, rehabilitation, etc.)
- Contribute to electromobility by supplying nickel and cobalt for 1.5 million electric batteries
Becoming a leader in the electric battery industry
To meet the challenges of the energy transition, Eramet and BASF are developing a hydrometallurgical plant project in Halmahera, Indonesia. It will produce a nickel and cobalt intermediate that will be used to produce nickel and cobalt salts, two essential components in the manufacture of electric vehicle batteries.

With high-potential mining deposits and unique metallurgical know-how, Eramet is well positioned to supply the critical metals needed for the energy transition. This partnership with BASF for the production of a nickel and cobalt-based intermediate product in Indonesia is an excellent opportunity, in line with our ambition to supply the electric vehicle battery industry reliably and responsibly.
