Grande Côte Opérations (GCO), a subsidiary of the Eramet specializing in the exploitation of mineral sands in Senegal, is the last company in the Group to have been awarded the ISO 14001:2015 certification.

On April 7, 2021, GCO was awarded the ISO 14001:2015 certification by Bureau Veritas for its environment management system. GCO thus becomes the first ISO 14001 certified mining company in Senegal!

This is a very important moment in the life of GCO. Respecting the environment has been part of our values since the beginnings of the mine. This certification attests to the actions implemented in order to continuously improve our environmental performance by reducing the impact of our activities.

Obtaining this certification rewards the long work begun in 2019 by the project team led by the Communities, Environment and Public Affairs Department of GCO, which involved all of GCO’s operational and support teams, with the support of Eramet’s Environment Department.

This is a voluntary commitment from GCO, which aims to mobilize all staff and subcontractors in order to reduce the impact of the activity on soil, water, fauna, flora and air.

This certification is not an end in itself: we must put as much energy and heart into maintaining this high level of environmental and social standards.

This certification also marks a new milestone for the Group: all our operating mines now have an environment management system that complies with the highest international standards.

The preservation of the environment is part of the commitments listed in the Eramet group’s CSR roadmap, especially through its 12th objective: “Preserve the water resource and accelerate the rehabilitation of our mining sites by promoting biodiversity.”

Our goal is to reach our production targets while preserving the environment in which we operate, as well as the interests of the communities living near our mines. To this end, managing our impacts on the environment is essential. It is part of our values, but our right to operate also depends on it.
