ERAMET celebrates 40 years' research in Trappes

On December 7th and 8th, ERAMET celebrated the 40th anniversary of its R&D centre, set up in Trappes, Yvelines, near Paris in September 1972. It was an opportunity for the entire Groupe to remember how crucial innovation and research are to its activities’ success in combining industrial performance, economic growth and sustainable development.

Today ERAMET has 350 people dedicated to R&D, 190 of who are directly based on the Trappes site as engineers and technicians or in support services. The centre’s expertise, which covers mineralurgy, hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy but also physical characterisation, chemical analysis and modelling, serves the entire Groupe and its projects.

Beyond research on improving the Groupe’s current processes and developing future techniques, ERAMET Research’s mission also is to train its employees in every aspect of the engineering profession, e.g. safety, environmental and economic management, industrial relations project and team leadership. In this way, while enhancing ERAMET’s innovation capability, it helps to build the skills that drive the Groupe’s development, both now and in the future.

A sculpture of the ERAMET Groupe’s logo, designed and made by ERAMET Research teams, was inaugurated on December 7th. All of the unit’s personnel were present, as well as many Groupe representatives and former Trappes employees. The next day, the unit organised an open day that let both external visitors and ERAMET workers and their families discover or find out more about the wealth of research activities at ERAMET.
